Founding Board of Directors Application

As NESEC continues to formalize its structure and prepare for its next phase of growth, we are excited to announce that we are now accepting applications for our founding Board of Directors.

This will be an active, working Board. In addition to quarterly Board meetings, Directors should be prepared to contribute between meetings through committees, partnerships, fundraising and resource development, membership growth, programs, advocacy, or other areas aligned with NESEC's mission.

Background

Over the past year, NESEC has grown from an idea into a grassroots regional initiative. Multiple planning workshops, space-sector site visits, conferences, and conversations have repeatedly reinforced both the interest in and the need for a stronger, more connected Northeast space ecosystem. NESEC was founded to bring together the Northeast's space industry, research institutions, investors, and public-sector partners to turn the region's collective capabilities into commercial opportunities and economic growth.

Over the past month, the NESEC Steering Committee has focused on establishing a fair, transparent, and thoughtful process for selecting the organization's founding Board of Directors. NESEC has also filed to incorporate in Massachusetts, an important foundational step as we prepare to seek federal recognition as a 501(c)(6) regional space industry advocacy organization.

Who we are looking for

We are seeking experienced, impactful leaders who are committed to strengthening the Northeast space economy and who can bring meaningful expertise, relationships, resources, and active engagement to the organization. NESEC's Board will help guide the organization's strategy, governance, partnerships, resource development, and regional impact.

We are particularly interested in building a Board that reflects the breadth of the Northeast space ecosystem, including perspectives from industry, emerging companies, venture capital, academia and research, government and economic development, national security, and related sectors.

What happens next

The NESEC Steering Committee will review submissions with the goal of identifying a diverse and complementary group of leaders who can help establish a strong foundation for the organization and advance the Northeast space ecosystem as a whole. The Board will be announced by mid-December 2026, and directors will begin their terms in January 2027.
